To all the commenters saying that Genkai shouldve become a demon too...man you really missed the point. This is a clash of ideologies, Genkai accepted the passage of time and living on through their students and loved ones. Toguro selfishly gave up his friends and lover for personal immortality. But even that was just to masochisticly trap himself in a form he hated, never having moved past the trauma of Kairen, even though that was through no fualt of his own. And make no mistake on who wins here: Toguro dies a day later to her student, whilst she is brought back by the ones she loves and is loved by. And Yusuke learns to live with Keiko, a life Toguro and Genkai couldve had once upon a time...

I enjoy that Genkai regardless of knowing the end and having so much knowledge she was still terrified of her death that’s humanity you see in very few Animes and it’s very relatable

Makes you wonder how much it took out of Toguro to laugh when fighting Genkai.

Its a tragedy, because she truly did give up greatness... humans only live up to about 100 while demons can live up to over 1000 or forever if they can regenerate, in her whole human life span she only achieved a miniscule fraction of what she could have as a demon. She herself said she didn't care about ethics/morals, and that all she cared about was passing on her martial arts, so why didn't she ask for demonhood, she could have expanded her style to unreached heights as a devil and kept it to herself...

I know people will argue that Togoru wasnt actually that bad because of a few moments he had at the end in the afterlife reunion with Genkai, but if he wanted to fight people who are strong, why didnt he fight the three demon kings. Like then we could see him getting toyed around with the same way he did that to everyone else.
